Time for a “new” table

Time for a “new” table

The table I painted two years ago is showing some wear. It was the first furniture piece that I attempted to do.   I used Rustoleum Furniture Restoration Kit, which I had been reading about in various blogs saying it works well. But what I didn’t notice is that none of the furniture they did was a heavily used dining room table.

So two years down the road it looks … not the way I’d hope.

Cue Craigslist. I found this beauty, the man that sold it to me had so much stuff, I kept looking all around his property and I was like a kid in a candy store. But alas I only came home with this table and 4 chairs.

My inspiration was this:

I liked the gray stain on the table and rustic white on the legs.

But when I got to sanding… and sanding … and even more sanding. I saw what was underneath the dark paint and I was having a really hard time thinking I’d actually stain it.

It already had a gray tint to it. I fell in love with the bare wood. So I just added a few coats of polyacrylic. I used polyacrylic because unlike polyurethane it doesn’t yellow over time.  The photo doesn’t really do the table justice, I’ll have to get some photo’s in some better lighting.

The table is done, and currently the chairs are getting close. I’ll have a post up soon revealing what I am doing to those.
