If only you could see it before…

I am really kicking myself, like really really. The basement bathroom was a sight to behold and mostly due to the color of the walls. They. Were. Bright. Blue. No joke, they took 3 coats of primer and 2 more coats of color to finally stop seeing the blue.

I took the paint can image from a blog post from Huff Post titled “5 Mistakes Everyone Makes When Picking Wall Colors.” The last owners might have benefited from reading that post. Then again that blue might have been just what they wanted seeing that they had also tiled their shower with this amazing color as an accent.

Check out that tile.

I fell in love with the color I painted my little girls room. It’s the perfect light teal/aqua color . It doesn’t have too much pigment in it, too much gray. It’s just perfect to me. So since I was loving it so much and had some left over again I decided to paint the downstairs bathroom. (Left over paint in my house is never a good thing, specially when I have rooms in the house that are painted hideous colors). The basement bathroom would also serve as the guest bathroom so I wanted to make a space that was comforting and not off putting like it was when I first walked into it.

It’s a large bathroom, so large the layout should be reconsidered at some point in the future, plus the other awkward that about this bathroom- the side of the toilet is abnormally close to the wall. That being said after 5 coats of primer and paint I styled the bathroom a bit. The painting of the bicycle with flowers is from one of the few sipping and painting nights I’ve attended. I’ve never thought I’d find a place I wanted to put it.

The walls are painted, the shower is hidden with a new curtain, there are new towel racks and there are some coordinating towels too. But the vanity were still looking old. So enter Rust-oleum furniture paint again. It’s so easy to use. This time I went with Charcoal but I skipped the glazing step. I also upgraded the hardware to sleeker silver.

I love how just painting an existing vanity can make you love something you didn’t really care for before. I still would like to frame the mirror about the sink and possibly change the faucet. Anybody catching on that if I don’t like something I don’t run out and buy something? No my M.O. is to run out (or find in my garage) some paint and paint it.
